Frequently asked questions.

Everything you might want to know about how ChallanSathi looks up and settles your traffic challans. If something isn't answered here, write to info@challansathi.in.

Getting started

Is ChallanSathi an official government portal?
No. ChallanSathi is an independent private service. We are not an RTO, traffic police department, court, or any government authority. We use authorised data sources to look up your challans and our on-ground team and lawyers settle them on your behalf.
Who can use ChallanSathi?
Any Indian resident, aged 18 or above, with a valid Indian mobile number, who wants to look up or settle challans on a vehicle they own or are authorised to act for.
Do I need to download an app?
No. ChallanSathi is fully accessible from your mobile or desktop browser at challansathi.in.
How do I sign in?
Enter your 10-digit mobile number on the homepage. You will receive an OTP via SMS, which you enter to verify and access your dashboard.

Looking up challans

What information do I need to look up challans?
Just the vehicle registration number (RC), exactly as printed on the registration certificate. The format is the same as on the number plate (e.g. UP14CA5738).
Is the lookup live?
Yes. We query authorised challan-data sources in real time and return the list of open challans against your vehicle.
Can I look up challans for someone else's vehicle?
Only if you are authorised to do so — e.g. a fleet operator, family member with consent, or company representative. By submitting the registration number you confirm that you have lawful authority.
What if a challan I expect isn't shown?
Government databases sometimes take 24 – 72 hours to update. Try again after a day. If it still doesn't appear, write to info@challansathi.in.

Pricing & payments

How much does ChallanSathi cost?
You pay the government fine (which is fixed by the authority) plus a flat ChallanSathi service fee that depends on the type of challan. The exact fee — including any state-specific overrides for complex matters — is shown on the checkout screen before you pay, and current pricing is published on our website. There are no hidden charges.
How is payment processed?
All payments are processed by Razorpay, a payment aggregator authorised by the Reserve Bank of India. UPI, debit card, credit card and netbanking are supported. We never see or store your card / UPI / bank credentials.
Will I receive a payment receipt?
Yes. You will see a receipt on the success page immediately after payment, and your dashboard will retain a permanent record under My Cases.
Is GST charged on the service fee?
Where applicable, GST is added to the service fee at the rate prescribed under Indian law and is shown on your receipt.

Settlement & refunds

How long does settlement take?
Most normal challans are settled within 3 – 5 working days. Court challans depend on the next listing date in the relevant state — we give you a realistic estimate before you pay.
Who actually settles my challan?
For normal challans, our on-ground team visits the RTO or designated counter. For court challans, a bar-registered advocate appears on your behalf.
How will I know my challan is cleared?
Your dashboard status updates in real time, and you receive an SMS the moment the official record is marked as cleared.
What if my challan cannot be settled?
If our team determines that a paid challan cannot be settled (e.g. data mismatch, jurisdictional block), the service fee is automatically refunded to the original payment method. See our Refund Policy for full details.

Privacy & security

Is my personal data safe with ChallanSathi?
Yes. We follow the security practices required under the Information Technology Act, 2000 and the DPDP Act, 2023. Sessions are encrypted (HTTPS), payment data is handled exclusively by Razorpay, and our team accesses your data only on a need-to-know basis. Please review our Privacy Policy for the full details.
Can I delete my account and data?
Yes. Under the DPDP Act you may request erasure of your personal data. Write to info@challansathi.in with your registered mobile number. Some data may need to be retained for legal and accounting purposes.
Will my number be used for marketing?
No. Your mobile number is used only for OTP, case-status SMS and direct support communication. We do not sell your data to advertisers.
